Wind Up DAB Radio

In 1989 a man called Trevor Baylis was inspired to invent a radio that could generate power by winding it up. He was inspired by a TV programme that explained about the AIDs issue in Africa and how it could be solved by education.
The problem was that in lots of remote parts of the continent, it was difficult to reach people and they had no power so could not use radios or televisions. The resulting wind up radio was hugely successful and won many awards. As well as being a great source of radio for those without access to mains power, wind up technology is also eco friendly. Because it does not use mains electricity it does not contribute to CO2 in the atmosphere and global warming.
More recently in the UK we now have digital radio. Digital radio carries radio signal as digital instead of analogue. What this means is that more data can be carried and there is also the potential for many more digital radio stations than analogue. Digital radio signal is also a lot cleaner and crisper and music sounds much more like listening to a CD. It also has extra features such as being able to display the name of the current song being played.
The Freeplay Devo wind up DAB radio manages to merge the excellent technologies of wind up power and digital radio into one unit. This is the only wind up DAB radio available and was also the first ever to be introduced to the market.
The wind up DAB radio features a cool retro design and is relatively compact so will easily fit on a kitchen shelf. It produces an excellent quality sound and winding it up is a relatively straight forward process. Simply wind the crank for a few minutes and you will have enough power for a good listen.
Because it is not powered by mains electricity it is a great option for taking camping, on a picnic or even to the beach.
Digital radio is going to grow to become the main form over radio once the analogue signal is switched off and with this eco friendly product you can do your bit for the environment as well!
